Residency Open Call
An international residency program for dancers, choreographers, and interdisciplinary performing artists from around the world. Based at the Global Gastronomy Museum in Shanghai, with residency dates flexible within the program's exhibition season.
About the Residency
This is more than a performance opportunity — it is a public art practice about the body, the city, culture, and the relationships between people.
The International Dance Residency is an international residency program built around dance, culture, space, and public exchange. We invite professional dancers, choreographers, movement artists, performance artists, and dance companies from around the world to Shanghai for a long-term residency of creation, performance, and cultural exchange.
Artists in residence will have the opportunity to present dance performances, open rehearsals, workshops, public encounters, and interdisciplinary collaborations within the museum and its related public spaces.
The program encourages participants to use the body and dance as cultural and artistic media, connecting with audiences through movement, space, music, storytelling, and live performance.
A Long-Term Residency Model
Each dancer or dance artist stays for no less than two months. During the residency, artists live, rehearse, and create in Shanghai while taking part in the museum's public programs. The program brings together artists from different countries, cultural backgrounds, and dance disciplines, continually offering new performances, content, and cultural experiences across the exhibitions and public spaces.

Depending on the artist's creative plans and the program's needs, a three-month residency may be requested, allowing a fuller creative cycle and more time to present outcomes.
Residency dates are flexible within the program's exhibition season; exact arrival and departure dates will be confirmed together with the program team after selection.
Participation Requirements
During the residency, participants are expected to take part in museum-related activities at least five days per week; the remaining time is yours to devote to creation, research, rehearsal, and exploring the city.

What We Provide
From international travel to accommodation, from rehearsal space to media promotion — the program provides selected artists with complete support across the entire residency cycle.
International Round-Trip Flights
The program covers economy-class round-trip airfare to Shanghai for selected international dance artists. Departure city, flight arrangements, and booking details will be confirmed after selection.
Residency Accommodation
Full accommodation support is provided for the duration of the program, matching the officially confirmed residency period.
Rehearsal & Creation Space
Space for dance rehearsal, choreographic research, and creation is provided; specific arrangements will be coordinated according to the program schedule and dance discipline.
Performance & Presentation Spaces
Artists in residence will have opportunities to perform live in the museum's galleries, public areas, on stage, or within specific exhibition spaces.
Production Support
The program team provides production and execution support tailored to each project, including venue coordination, scheduling, on-site execution, and access to related resources.

Photography and video documentation will be provided in line with the performance and activity schedule; the material may be used for program promotion, the artist's own portfolio, and future collaborative presentations.
Media & Promotion
The program promotes its artists and their activities through the official website, social media, short-video platforms, and media partners.
International Network
Artists in residence will have opportunities to connect and collaborate with other international artists, chefs, designers, curators, and cultural institutions.
Letter of Invitation
Where needed for visa or entry procedures, the program can provide official invitation materials as appropriate.

Residency Outcomes
Artists may present the outcomes of their residency in one or more of the following forms. The program encourages work that engages with the museum's spaces, food culture, urban life, and public participation — work with a live presence and cross-cultural resonance.
Original Dance Work
A new dance work created and fully presented during the residency
Live Performances
Formal live performances for museum visitors and the general public
Site-Specific Performance
Custom-made performances responding to the museum's spaces and exhibition contexts
Artist Talks
Public lectures sharing creative methods, cultural backgrounds, and artistic practice

A screen-based work that documents and extends the residency's creative process
